There is a significant correlation between pelvic and lower back pain / misalignment with changes in the function of the feet.  It is thought that the most common changes we see in foot function (excessive pronation) occur as a result of pelvic imbalance.  In an attempt to bring the eyes back to level with the horizon, the foot posture changes, trying to level out the pelvis.  If this altered foot posture is sustained it leads to permanent changes in the function of the foot.  The two dysfunctional regions then feed off each other and most commonly leads to pain in the knees, hips and lower back; foot pain occurs much less frequently.  This is why we  use orthotics and chiropractic care together to bring about the best level of stability through the lower back, hips and knees.

Which Orthotics Do We Recommend?

The orthotics we recommend are ones that support all three arches of the feet and allow the foot to move as it should; these orthotics prevent excessive movement but allow normal movement through the gait cycle.  The orthotics we prescribe are Foot Levelers orthotics; Foot Levelers have the largest orthotic laboratory in the world and are produced from weight bearing images from a 3D scan.  AND unusually, they are comfortable!

The combination of orthotics and chiropractic care gives greater results than either of them by themselves.

How Are They Different?

Only Foot Levelers functional orthotics support all 3 arches of the foot, which make up the plantar vault. They’re custom-made by hand based on your unique feet, body and health profile. Just as no two bodies are alike, no two pairs of Foot Levelers custom orthotics are alike.

Over-the-counter orthotics may initially cost less, but they only support one arch in your foot. When only one arch is being supported, it may not maintain the structure of your plantar vault, and problems can start in other parts of your body. In fact, “over-supporting” just one arch of the foot may actually cause pain and symptoms, not relieve them.

The Research

With multiple research studies demonstrating the effectiveness of flexible, 3 arch support orthotics, there is increasing evidence of the benefits of these orthotics with lower back pain and other ailments.
